Fall Meeting 2010

Plans for the Southeast Chapter's Fall meeting are well underway, and once again, this event is shaping up to be such an exciting one we are extending the invitation to members of all of the chapters who would like to participate!

Mark your calenders-- the weekend of November 12-14, the NC Museum of Art will serve as host for our meetings. The weekend will feature an NCS tribute to Norman Rockwell, entitled "The Lighter Side of Rockwell." On exhibition will be a collection of Rockwell's original art and magazine covers.

National Public Radio's former producer of "All Things Considered" and current host of "The State of Things," Frank Stasio, will moderate a discussion panel on Rockwell consisting of Nick Meglin, Marcus Hamilton, and SEC Chairman Jack Pittman.

• Nick knew Rockwell personally through interviews for his book, The Art of Humorous Illustration, and will provide a glimpse into Rockwell's influences, and how his work made such a connection with the human condition.

• Marcus, as illustrator for The Saturday Evening Post before taking over the daily panels of "Dennis the Menace," makes a perfect segue from illustration in the same venue to cartooning with his similar family-styled humor.

• And Jack, representing humorous illustrators influenced by Rockwell, and having parodied some of Rockwell's iconic covers for several of his clients, will add to the discussion of how Rockwell's humor and comedic style contributed to humorous illustration today.

The audience will also include the general public, so any of the cartoonists present are welcome to field questions along with the panel. There are a few more surprises in the works. If you have never seen Rockwell's work in person, it will be an amazing opportunity not to be missed. The dinners, as always, will be a culinary feast and great time to catch up with one another. Stay tuned for itinerary details to be posted on our website and info on hotels with variety of pricing for every budget, maps to and from the events, tourist activities for your families, and info for registering so we can have a fairly accurate headcount for the restaurants.
