Cartoonist visits area school

SECNCS member James E. Lyle (a.k.a. Doodle) made a visit to Black Mountain Elementary School on Monday, December 10, 2007 and again on Thursday, December 13, 2007 to show boys' reading groups a little about comic books.

The reading groups were created to encourage reading in boys ages 9-12 because statistically interest in reading drops off in boys of this age. To encourage more reading in this group, the boys at Black Mountain have been offered a selection of graphic novels and comic books in addition to traditional "text-heavy" books. Lyle's visit was intended to reinforce this program by giving the boys one on one time with a comic book creator.

In addition to participating in the program today, the boys were also visited by two local papers, the Asheville Citizen-Times and The Black Mountain News. Both papers interviewed the boys and Lyle, and the Asheville Citizen-Times has posted photos in its website.
