Okay, this is my first blog entry--entirely, upon the whole landscape of the internet-- well, that doesn't include interviews. But it's significant in that Let me explain, As more and more of the solicitation of illustrators comes via the internet, the old way of doing business, i.e., taking a client out to lunch and establishing a relationship before they hire you, is less personal. BUT, as life beomes less personal, more people will desire a closer relationship with their contacts. So how do you accomplish that? You share your life and work, via a blog. And they go, "I want to feel like I have a relationship with that illustrator." And the money just rolls in... well, not necessarily in that order. But, believe me, it's true that as life becomes less personal, people have a need for intimacy. So, much to the chagrin of the anti-social, it's much more important how well you can relate than how you can draw. Actually, that was always the case, but the internet has only heightened the reality with its immediacy. So, get out your crayons, but also dust off your personality, because the buyers want you to be a person in an impersonal era. Hug a tree today.
