New Drawing Board

Everything here is so quiet that someone needs to post something new. Here goes...

I got a new drawing board. It was given to me by someone who bought it for his son, but the son did not use it. The drawing board came in kit form, and it was likely intended for moderate use by a kid. My first drawing board was from a Sears catalog and was by no means a professional quality, but it served me quite well during my years of working professionally at a drawing board. This new one, which is in my office away from home for the time being, was made in Brazil as a kit. No plywood was used. Instead everything is thick solid wood except the bottoms of the drawers. Despite the thickness of the wood, this table is very lightweight.

There are some modifications that need to be made. There is a channel cut into the lower side of the top with removable wooden bars to prevent a piece of paper from sliding off the table. I will need to have a filler strip cut to lay into that channel because I prefer to have a totally flat table top with no ridge at the bottom.

The edges of the top are rounded, making use of a T-square impossible. Not knowing how the wood would wear over time I will likely have someone cut the edges square and laminate a very hard wood, even plywood, to the edges.

The last modification may or may not be necessary. I want the dimension from the front edge to the top to be taller. More wood can be added, and even if it does not match it will be covered with a thin sheet of green linoleum.

There are other things that can be done, like screws in the side for hanging triangles or my electric eraser. I will worry about that once I get a feel for the new drawing board.
