Dateline, Asheville, NC.

The WNC group of the SECNCS had its monthly meeting at Frank's Roman Pizza on Tunnel Road in Asheville at 7pm Tuesday, June 5. In attendance were; Steve Haynie, Orrin Lundgren, Matt Mulder, Phil Hawkins, James Cassara, Michael Cole, and James and Karin Lyle. The group passed around various new projects along with the usual gossip.

Orrin Lundgren had proofs from his new book of cartoon "stickies", just out from Lark Books. Phil Hawkins showed his latest "Corgi Tales" strip. Michael Cole had more samples from his "George and Dragin" strip (which is still in development, and has been sent for copyright registration). Matt Mulder and James Lyle are now collaborating on a comic strip that they describe as a cross between "Mary Worth" and "American Splendor". Finally, James Cassara passed around several books from his extensive library of art books that inflamed everyone's envy (of particular note were books featuring illustration from Misters Bama and Gogos).

Topics of discussion included; Everyone wishing they could draw like Bama and or Gogos, methods and techniques for improving artwork, how to get noticed by editors (but the less said about this the better), the upcoming fall meeting of SECNCS, the winners at Reubens, and various forums for publication in the Asheville market.

A good time was had by all, and we encourage any and all SECNCS members to join us if they plan to be in the Asheville area around the first Tuesday of the month.
