Kevin Kallaugher hits stage, conventions

Kevin (KAL) Kallaugher is touring once again with the comedy group Second City. New shows are scheduled for October 7th in Philadelphia and on November 1st in New York City. See web site for details.

Kal will also be attending both the Democratic and Republican conventions and providing daily sketches for the Economist’s web site and political blog.

Dick Locher approaches 10,000 cartoon, retirement

Dick Locher has been the editorial cartoonist for the Chicago Tribune for 38 years and as he nears his 10,000 cartoon, he hints that it might be time to retire. In a story in the Telegraph Herald (Dubuque, IA) he says that he’s looking forward to other things.

Locher. 79, also has drawn the syndicated “Dick Tracy” comic since 1983, and has written that strip since 2005. He has been an editorial cartoonist for the Chicago Tribune for 38 years.

“My 10,000th cartoon is close,” he said, hinting at retirement. “There are other hills to climb, and it’s been a great run. I’m looking forward to the retirement cake.”

Thirty of Dick’s cartoons will be on exhibit starting this Sunday at the Dubuque Museum of Art.

Rare Arctic Circle caption contest created

The Daily Green, a web site dedicated to living green, is offering its readers a one-time caption contest of a cartoon created by Arctic Circle creator Alex Hallatt. The Daily Green editors will whittle the choices down to 10 and then Alex will pick the winner who will receive a signed and framed print with the winning caption.

The Daily Green is an exclusive online publisher for Arctic Circle.

Correction: Despite The Daily Green assertion that they are the “exclusive online publisher of Article Circle,” Alex assures me that they are not.

Drew Litton posts animations for DNC convention

Drew Litton, sports cartoonist for the Rocky Mountain News, has teamed up with Rich Moyer to produce five political animations in time for the Democratic National Convention that will be held in Denver starting the 25th of August.
